Duluth, MN Day Trip

On Labor Day, David and I decided to take a day trip up to Duluth, MN.  It was a 2 hour drive, so we left about 8 and got to Duluth at 10.  We packed our lunch and took it down to the coast to eat at the park on the shore of the port.  It was a beautiful day.  It was actually a little chilly, but it was great.

We sat by the coast for a while and watched some boats come into the bay and the bridge go up and down for the boats.

After lunch we went to the maritime museum and then we walked up and down the street and looked into some of the shops.  Then we went to the aquarium and spent some time there.

It was a great trip and we had a lot of fun.  It's a very historic port and I felt so dumb for not realizing so much trade took place on the Great Lakes.

The Apartment

Well David and I have lived in the twin cities for over a month now.  We are adjusting and enjoying experiencing all there is to offer here.  Since I have not worked up until today....another post....I have enjoyed making our apartment home to us.  I was waiting for Rachel to get here to help me with some placement of things around the apt.  Also, I have not printed pictures, so a lot of these frames are empty.  Oops.  Oh well, hopefully I'll get them filled by Christmas ;).  As asked by a few people, here are some pictures of what we call "home".

Here is our living area with the TV and sofa and chairs.

Here's the dining table and kitchen

Here's a hutch that I bought in Oxford at an antique store.  The other picture is a shot from inside the door to the apartment and how it's laid out.

We also have a balcony.  There's a door to the right of the TV that goes to the balcony.

Here's the wonderful wedding gift from Robert, he painted this pigeon for us.  We love it.

And here's one of our favorite gifts...a painting by Robbie Shackelford commissioned by the Harrell's as a wedding gift to us.

Here's the guest bedroom/David's office/studio/whatever you want to call it. It also houses the biggest wall closet I have ever seen.  The entire wall is a closet.  I guess they need all the storage for these big coats and sweaters we're acquiring.

Here are the bathrooms.  David's/guest has the stripe shower curtain and mine is the paisley one.

Here's the hallway from the kitchen/front door to both bedrooms.  Across from this display is the laundry room with the washer/dryer and shelving.  Thank you for the canvas picture McDougald's, Bryant's, Megan, and Penrod's!  Also Thank you to Sarah and Andrew for the "Walton" plaque carved by one of their friends in Tanzania.  We love both of these gifts so much!!!!!!

Last but not least, here's our bedroom....still a work in progress.  And this painting is a gift from one of my patient's in my grad school practicum.  My patient's son is an artist and he gave me some prints of his work.  I really like this one!

And here's a gift from David's aunt Sandy.  She gave us this original piece by Paige an artist that is one of Sandy's favorites.  I always comment on Sandy's paintings by Paige in her house, so I think she knew how much we would love this one!

Well I guess that's all for now.  I'll be back with more about my job, David's first performance this coming weekend, and our trip to Duluth this past weekend!
