Exploring the cities pretty much means eating at as many restaurants as possible. So to start off, Tuesday night before Dave's mom left we ate a restaurant in Downtown Minneapolis called Hell's Kitchen. They are known for their breakfast, which gratefully they serve all day. so I had a delicious plate of Eggs Benedict while Lynn had a buffalo burger (which she did not know it was buffalo until she got half way through the burger and Dave and I broke the news to her....it was classic). We were proud of her though, she ate the other half! The highlight of the meal was the live entertainment. This band was singing some ooold school country tunes. Apparently country music is almost as big of a deal up here as it is in Nashville...weird.
Thursday, August 4
David and I worked on unpacking boxes and putting things in the cabinets.
Friday, August 5
David and I practiced taking the bus from the apartment to downtown Minneapolis where he will have rehearsals. It's about a 40 minute bus ride and then he can either walk or take a transfer 8 blocks. He'll probably walk while the weather's still good, but I'm sure he'll be glad to have that transfer when it's -10 outside and windy!
Saturday, August 6
Again, David and I worked in the apartment for a few hours and then went to eat a restaurant called Shamrock's in Downtown St. Paul. We were told to eat a restaurant called The Nook which is owned by the same people as Shamrock's. But because of a fire in December of last year The Nook had not reopened yet. I just saw today that The Nook is back, so we'll try it sometime too. Anyway, the Twin Cities are known for Juicy Lucy's and delicious burgers, so I had the Triple B Burger-Bourbon, Bacon Burger at Shamrock's. It was pretty much the best thing I've ever had. The bacon was covered in brown sugar and cinnamon and the cheddar cheese was absolutely amazing. I wasn't brave enough to try a Juicy Lucy (I'm saving it for when Rachel and Nick come to town in two weeks).
Sunday, August 7
David and I had decided to try out Woodbury church of Christ, in believe it or not, Woodbury, MN. It's about a 25 minute drive pretty much all interstate, so not bad. We like it so far, and there have been a lot of Harding connections.
Map of places that we go to. I'll add more to this as we go.
After church a fellow Cantus member, Adam and his wife Trish, picked us up at our apartment and took us around St. Paul and Minneapolis (a little bit, more SP) to show us their favorite places and restaurants. It was very helpful and a lot of fun. I took notes the whole time. I've got a long list of things to do. We had some appetizers at a place called Forepaughs which consisted of french fries and fried cheese curds topped with pickled red peppers, gravy and ketchup. They sure do love fried food up here...Hallelujah! Forepaugh's also featured a "wine room" in the basement of the victorian house that requires a 1,000$ minimum for a party of 8. The chef will prepare whatever you want, and you can make it as many courses as you would like for it to be.
That's all for now!
